Moles create raised surface ridges (feeding tunnels) and volcano-shaped mounds. They eat insects and worms — NOT plants. Gophers create fan-shaped mounds and eat plant roots and vegetation. Moles don't eat plants (root damage is incidental from tunneling), while gophers actively eat them. Treatment strategies differ significantly.
